New MP Mold for .455 Webley (hollow base)

I had a recent birthday and my beloved got me the thing that was at the top of my wish list... this bullet mold from Ljubljana, Slovenia!

Using my mongrel alloy (some wheel weights, some pipe lead, some spent air rifle pellets, some sinkers) with just enough plumber's solder to help with filling out the mold, I was able to cast these:

They're dropping right at .455, at 257 grains dry. With lube they will be close to 260 grains on the button. You will see from the photo that the nose-pour sprue is a little rough; I can address this by cooling the sprues before I cut them.

I have some pure lead ingots on order, and I am going to see how well this mold pours with pure lead. I anticipate some weak fill-out, but my hope is that with sufficient heat I can get it done.

Many a Webley shooter can use these I bet.

I have (I think) three, nope, four handguns that were .455’s that have been converted. Wait, five! Good grief!

Anyways, I think Wayne Miller was looking for a similar mold on Facebook recently.

That one is a good looking one and looks pretty close to the original bullets. Or at least some variants. And as Jim says, it ought to be useful in several cartridges. Would be a fun plinker in .45-70 rifles.

I'm going to test a few

I plan to load some up in Auto Rim brass to shoot through my Model 25-2. The revolver doesn't need hollow-base bullets, but they should work just fine in it all the same.

I will have to size them down to .452 to put them in the AR brass.

I don't anticipate that they'll give me any trouble.

I really like this mold. Once I got it rolling it was dropping clean bullets dependably, four at a time. You can fill up a bin pretty fast that way.

Also, the mold came with a top punch for a lubrisizer! Can you believe it?

Five stars, would recommend.

I only have one MP mold but I agree. They are top notch!

That must be fairly new.

I bought one a few years back, the flat nose "man stopper" profile, which I believe was the only option at the time.

I hate to say it, not only haven't I cast it all these years later, I don't think I've even opened the package since it was delivered.

Sized and lubed

I emptied the scrap alloy out of my lead pot last night and filled it up again with pure lead. Once up to temp the MP mold persisted in casting pretty good-looking bullets even with no added tin.

These are sized to .452 and weigh 265.5 grains with lube applied.

I'm pretty pleased with these.
